Protect your people. Know your options.
Explore indexed universal life insurance with a clear conversation about protection, costs, and long-term fit.
Start with the people who count on you.
Before talking about a policy, talk about your life. Who depends on your income? What would you want covered if you were no longer here? For a family, that might mean everyday bills, a mortgage, or time for a partner to find their footing. For a business owner, the conversation may start with personal responsibilities alongside business commitments.
Indexed universal life, often called IUL, is permanent life insurance with a death benefit and a cash-value component. It deserves a careful look at both the protection it provides and the commitment it requires. The starting point is your need for life insurance, your budget, and how long you need coverage.

| Feature | What to understand | What to ask |
|---|---|---|
| Interest crediting | Crediting follows the policy’s index-linked formula, limits, and terms. | Which caps, participation rates, or other limits apply, and can they change? |
| Policy charges | Insurance and other policy charges affect available value. | What charges apply now and later, and how are they shown? |
| Illustrated values | Nonguaranteed projections are different from guarantees. | What does the guaranteed illustration show? What if actual crediting is lower? |
| Loans and withdrawals | Accessing value can affect coverage and create tax consequences. | What happens to my death benefit, costs, and risk of lapse? |
Make room for the whole picture.
A useful conversation includes the tradeoffs. How much can you comfortably commit over time? What coverage do you already have? Would a simpler approach better match the reason you need insurance? You do not have to arrive knowing the answer, and an IUL policy is not automatically the right choice.
If an IUL policy is under consideration, review the insurer’s illustration and disclosures alongside your questions. Discuss what is guaranteed, what can change, and what ongoing attention the policy may need. Keep your tax and legal professionals involved where their advice is needed.

Questions about indexed universal life?
IUL is a life insurance policy. Its cash value and interest-crediting rules are governed by the contract. An index-linked crediting formula is not the same as owning the index or investing directly in stocks.
Nonguaranteed illustrated values are not guaranteed. Review the guaranteed and nonguaranteed portions of the insurer’s illustration, along with the assumptions, policy charges, and limitations.
A policy may permit loans or withdrawals under its terms. They can reduce cash value and the death benefit, affect policy sustainability, and have tax consequences. Review the policy and seek tax advice for your circumstances.
